The Beatz E-nterview - Dumonde

8th December 2003

Dumonde, aka JamX and De Leon, return to the decks with their new release Human this month, and with classics such as God Music under their belt, it's bound to be a hit.

So, who are this duo? How did they come to be? What they been up to? We emailed them and asked. This is what they had to say.

>How did you guys meet and how did you come to the name Dumonde? We met in a club in our hometown in '94 where we both worked during the weekend. Each of us had already been producing our own music and in 1995 we decided to found our studio together. We also did Hip Hop and House Music in the 90's and then we thought it's time for a trance project, so we named it DuMonde and our first song was  'Tomorrow' . That was in 1997 and since then it  has grown and grown. >What's the driving force behind your music? What inspires you? The idea to transport emotions through music. There's nothing better then producing a new composition in the studio and then being very excited, when you play it for the first time in the club to an audience and if the reaction is great, it makes you so proud. It's an incredible feeling, which is hard to describe. >How would you describe your style of music? We hate it to be categorized. Maybe you could say, our music is a selection of harder beats combined with big harmonies and fx. We like to create a sound that overwhelmes the listener. We are just trying to give our tracks the most possible energy while trying not to lose the atmosphere which we want to transport through the whole song. >It must have been fantastic to have done a world tour. >Did you play out your own tracks, do some DJing or a mixture? It's always a mixture. When we play in other contries across the sea, people demand our tracks in the club. So we always have a big variety of our remixes and own productions with us. Sometimes people hold up signs with tracks they want to hear during our set, that's always funny! >Which country did you enjoy the most and why? That's hard to say. The last oversea gig was in Toronto/Canada and the crowd was so enthusiastic, it was mental. We played a 3 hour set and actually we didn't want to stop. But also Australia and Japan have been great countries. People there seem to be more open to clubbing and are not bored of it yet, like you see sometimes in Europe. >Is it something you'd do again? We will fly back to Canada for NYE and will do another Australia and U.S. Tour next year so we are really looking forward to it again! >Releases. (I absolutely loved God Music by the way!) >What's the new single all about? 'HuMan' is about showing the contrasts between human behaviour, emotions, feelings, etc.  We just wanted to say, all these things 'Love & Hate', 'jealosy & pride' are just human, you should accept it how it is and sometimes have a laugh about yourself. People often take  themselves too serious and we try not to be like that, although we are also just 'HuMan' >Various single releases, are we going to see an album? Yes, definately! We are just working on our 'Best of remixes' Album, where you will find a large selection of remixes we've done from 1998 until today. And besides that we are working on the first DuMonde Album to be released in early 2004 containing all tunes we've done under the name 'DuMonde'! >What's your favourite tunes of the moment? 1)    CJ Stone - Don't look back 2)    DuMonde -  HuMan (Lee Haslam Mix) 3)    No Faces - !SP! 4)    Rank 1 - Symsonic (DuMonde Mix) 5)    Frank Who - Wonder >Where do you get your music? Record shop or the Internet? We get a lot of promos from everywhere so we already have new stuff every week. But we also have two record shops, where we buy other stuff frequently to be up to date. But we do that over the phone, not via Internet. >Thanks for your time and good luck with the new release.   >Beatz >-- >Beatz >beatz@beatzbase.com >http://www.beatzbase.com
